Reverend Roosevelt Lightsy, Jr. has served as Assistant Pastor at Community Missionary Baptist since 1995. He is a committed and loving leader, who displays a loving spirit for the Lord and for the congregation he will serve. He continues to labor and spread the Good News of the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST in word and deed. He feels his calling is not only to preach and teach to the masses, but to love and to serve them. His early exposure to the Word of God led him to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior and to obey the call of God in his life service to the Body of Christ. He was licensed to preach in 1978 and was ordained in 1981.

In addition to his church family, he has remained thoroughly invested in serving the community-at-large, as well as the downtrodden. He is an enthusiastic advocate for the Youth, also ex-offenders, persons/families of color, the Newburg Community, as well as Metro Louisville. In July 2002, Rev. Lightsy retired from a stellar career in the Adult and Juvenile Justice System. A partial list of positions he has held were in the Adult System as Probation and Parole Officer, Correction Cabinet Ombudsman and Cabinet Secretary’s Principle Assistant in the Juvenile System-Probation Worker and Treatment Center Superintendent.

Rev. Lightsy states he is honored and humbled to serve on numerous boards and to be the recipient of various awards and recognitions. He continues to pursue his goals of fostering community partnerships by serving as a Contract Consultant to Jefferson County Public Schools, a member of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, and as a Chairman of the NAACP Religious Affairs Committee. He also serves as Vice-President of the Newburg Ministerial Association. Rev. Lightsy received his B.S. degree from Western Kentucky University and advanced studies from Kentucky State University and Simmons Bible College. He is an active member of Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity Inc., Theta Omega Chapter, and the National Hook-Up of Black Women Inc. (Male Associates).

His family is viewed as his most valued Blessing and solemn Trust! The surviving widow of the late Mary Mason after 39 years of marriage, he is the proud father of their two sons, Roosevelt III, and Brian K. Lightsy. Joyfully, blessed again of GOD, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former DeAcquanita Madsen in November 2015. With the guidance of The Holy Spirit, they share the parenting responsibilities of their blended family. Rev. Lightsy lists among his favorite scriptures.

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
