Updated: Sep 7, 2024

Sickle cell disease is one of the health awareness of September. Sickle cell disease is an inherited disease that affects the red blood cells and causes the red cell to be sickle shaped. This can cause serious problems, including (but not limited to) infections, pain, eye issues, and stroke. Sickle cell disease occurs in all races, but black and brown people have the highest percentage of this disease. Sickle cell disease progresses with age, causing life expectancy to be decreased.
